[06:59.30]and told the BBC

[07:00.77]he believed 60 civilians had been killed,

[07:03.49]and a hundred more wounded,

[07:05.15]and that some thirty Taliban

[07:06.99]including a key commander

[07:08.55]had also died

[07:09.98]as had seventeen Afghan soldiers.

[07:12.02]Uruzgan's police chief

[07:13.99]gave much lower figures

[07:15.36]for civilians and army deaths,

[07:17.46]but estimated the number of Taliban killed at 65.

[07:34.08]Three Canadian soldiers

[07:36.36]serving with the NATO led force in Afghanistan

[07:39.24]have been killed by a roadside bomb.

[07:42.05]The Taliban said it carried out the attack,

[07:50.61]one of Afghanistan's

[07:51.86]most dangerous provinces, Kandahar,

[08:45.99]have been engaging in heavy fighting

[08:47.59]in the city of Baquba

[08:49.18]for the last four days.

[08:50.99]But lieutenant general Rey Odyanno

[08:53.99]only lower level Al-Qaeda fighters

[08:55.96]were now there.

[08:57.65]Lieutenant general Rey Odyanno

[08:59.59]said 80% of what he called

[09:01.30]the upper level Al-Qaeda leaders

[09:03.39]in the city had already fled.

[09:05.93]He went on to say that

[09:07.18]80% of its lower level figures

[09:09.30]were still there.

[09:10.89]But it is a surprising admission.
